“I was 12 years old when I got pregnant, and had my daughter when I was 13 years old. My pregnancy was unexpected and unplanned. The father of the baby was not around and was not going to help me. My family thought it was best for me to place my child for adoption and supported the decisions I made. I went to live at a maternity home during my pregnancy. At the home I got to learn about parenting and about adoption and the different kinds of adoption. Although the choice was very hard for me I chose adoption because I didn’t want to be a single teen parent and wanted my daughter to have a better life than I have. I chose an open adoption where I get pictures of her and I get to visit her. These visits are very hard for me, but I get to see that my daughter is happy and her parents love her. My social worker through New Horizons really helped me through the whole process. She presented me with both options without pushing adoption on me. New Horizons helped me in a lot of ways and I am grateful for them. I am proud of my choice and the life my daughter has.”
